Ciudad Piar is a town located in the Bolívar state of Venezuela. It's about 77 kilometers (48 miles) south of Ciudad Bolívar, but the road trip is longer, around 120 kilometers (75 miles). This town is found at the eastern base of a mountain called Cerro Bolivar.

Ciudad Piar is the main town, or administrative seat, for Angostura Municipality. It is mostly known as a mining town because of the important activities happening there.

What is Ciudad Piar?

Ciudad Piar is a town in the southeastern part of Venezuela. It's a place where many people live and work, especially in the mining industry. The town is surrounded by interesting natural features, like mountains and a huge lake.

Where is Ciudad Piar Located?

Ciudad Piar is in the Bolívar state, which is one of the largest states in Venezuela. It sits in a special spot:

  • It's at the foot of Cerro Bolivar, a mountain famous for its iron ore.
  • It's also close to the massive Embalse de Guri reservoir. This is a very large artificial lake created by a dam.

The town's location makes it important for both mining and for accessing the Guri reservoir.

Mining in Ciudad Piar

Ciudad Piar is known as a "mining town." This means that a big part of its economy and the jobs available are related to mining.

  • The main resource mined here is iron ore. Iron ore is a rock from which metallic iron can be extracted. Iron is used to make steel, which is then used to build cars, buildings, and many other things we use every day.
  • The mining activities happen on Cerro Bolivar. This mountain is a key source of iron ore for Venezuela.

The Guri Reservoir

Close to Ciudad Piar is the huge Embalse de Guri, also known as the Guri reservoir.

  • This reservoir was created by building the Guri Dam on the Caroní River.
  • The Guri Dam is one of the largest hydroelectric dams in the world. It uses the power of water to generate electricity for a big part of Venezuela.
  • The reservoir itself is a vast body of water, important for both energy production and the local environment.
