Claire Bretécher (born April 17, 1940 – died February 10, 2020) was a famous French cartoonist. She was known for drawing comics that showed real-life situations, especially about women. Some of her most famous comic series were Les Frustrés and Agrippine. Agrippine was about a cool, unimpressed teenager.

About Claire Bretécher
Claire Bretécher was born in Nantes, France. She started her career as an illustrator in 1963. Her first big job was drawing for a story called Le facteur Rhésus. This story was written by René Goscinny, who also created Asterix.
Early Career and New Characters
After her first job, Claire worked for many popular magazines. In 1969, she created a new character named "Cellulite." In 1972, she helped start a special Franco-Belgian comics magazine. It was called L'Écho des savanes. She worked with other famous cartoonists like Gotlib and Mandryka.
Popular Comics and TV Shows
Throughout the 1970s and 1980s, Claire Bretécher published many successful comic collections. One popular collection was The Destiny of Monique (1982). Her comic series Agrippine became very popular. In 2001, it was even made into a TV show. The show had 26 episodes and was shown on Canal+.
Her Later Life
Claire Bretécher passed away in Paris on February 10, 2020. She left behind a great collection of comics that are still enjoyed today.
Awards and Recognition
Claire Bretécher won several important awards for her comic work. These awards showed how much her art was appreciated.
- 1975: She won the Best French Author award. This was at the Angoulême International Comics Festival in France.
- 1987: She received the Adamson Award. This award is for the Best International Comic Book Cartoonist from Sweden.
