Clare Nancy Russell, born on August 4, 1944, is also known as Mrs. Clare Russell. She is a Scottish landowner who owns Ballindalloch Castle in Speyside. From 2002 to 2019, she served as the Lord Lieutenant of Banffshire. This important role meant she was the King's representative in the area.

Clare Russell is a very important person in Scotland. She is known for owning a large estate and for her public service. She is often called Lady Ballindalloch because of her connection to the historic castle.
Early Life and Family
Clare Russell is the only daughter of Major Sir Ewan George Macpherson-Grant. He was the last Baronet of Ballindalloch. Her mother was Evelyn Nancy Stopford Dickin.
In 1967, Clare married Oliver Henry Russell. Oliver is the second son of Admiral Hon. Sir Guy Russell. Clare and Oliver have three children together. Their names are Guy Ewan, Edward Oliver, and Lucy Clare Nancy.
Taking Over Ballindalloch Castle
When her father passed away in 1983, Clare Russell inherited Ballindalloch Castle. She also took over its large estate. This made her the "Lady Laird" of Ballindalloch. This means she is the female owner of this historic property.
Public Service and Roles
Clare Russell has been involved in many important organizations. Since 1986, she has been the Chair of Queen Mary's Clothing Guild (Scotland). This group helps people by providing clothing.
She also served on the main board of the Children's Hospice Association Scotland (CHAS) for six years. CHAS helps children who are very sick. Clare Russell has also worked with the Moray Health Council. She has been involved with the National Trust for Scotland and the Scotland Garden Scheme. These groups help protect Scotland's history and beautiful places.
Role as Lord Lieutenant
In 1991, Clare Russell became a Deputy Lieutenant for Banffshire. She then became the Vice Lord Lieutenant in 1998. In 2002, she became the Lord Lieutenant of Banffshire. She was the first woman to hold this position in Banffshire.
As Lord Lieutenant, she worked hard to support the county. Even though the administrative area of Banffshire changed in 1975, she helped keep its history alive. For example, in 2008, she led a campaign to put up road signs. These signs marked the old historic boundaries of the county.
Published Works
Clare Russell has also written two cookery books. She published them under her maiden name, Clare Macpherson-Grant Russell. The books are titled "I Love Food" and "I Love Food 2".
Royal Recognition
In 2017, Clare Russell received a special honor. She was appointed a Commander of the Royal Victorian Order (CVO). This award was given to her for her excellent service as a Lord Lieutenant. It is a recognition from the King for her dedication.
