Clarence Williams was born on May 16, 1977. He is a former professional American football player. He played as a running back for the Arizona Cardinals in the National Football League (NFL). Before joining the NFL, he was a star player for the Michigan Wolverines football team. He led the team in rushing in 1996. He was also part of the amazing 1997 team that won the national championship without losing a single game.

Clarence Williams' College Football Journey

High School Years

Clarence Williams went to Cass Technical High School in Detroit. During his last year, his team had a perfect 9–0 record. One of his coaches there was Thomas Wilcher. The team scored many points, showing how strong they were.

Playing for Michigan

Williams played for the University of Michigan from 1995 to 1998. He was a very active player. He ran the ball almost 2,000 yards during his time there. He also caught the ball for over 600 yards. Plus, he returned kickoffs for nearly 600 yards.

His best college game was against the Boston College Eagles. In that game, he ran for 133 yards. He also caught the ball for 43 yards.

His Sophomore Season (1996)

In 1996, Williams was a sophomore. He was the top rusher for the Wolverines. He ran for 837 yards that season. He also caught 27 passes for 361 yards. Another great player, Chris Howard, also added 725 rushing yards.

Winning the National Championship (1997)

As a junior in 1997, Williams played in 9 games. The main running backs were Chris Howard and a new player, Anthony Thomas. Williams still contributed with 276 rushing yards.

That year, the Michigan team was incredible. They won all 12 of their games. They became the National Champions. Their strong defense was a big reason for their success. Charles Woodson, who won the Heisman Trophy that year, led the defense.

His Senior Season (1998)

In his final year, Williams ran for over 100 yards in two different games. He finished the season with 646 rushing yards. He also caught 14 passes for 102 yards. Anthony Thomas led the team in rushing that year.

Professional Football Career

After college, Clarence Williams was not chosen in the 1999 NFL draft. However, he still got a chance to play professionally. He played briefly for the Arizona Cardinals in the National Football League. This was during the 1999 and 2000 seasons. He had one reception for 5 yards in his NFL career.
