The Story of Claridon
Claridon was first planned out in the year 1821. It was a new community back then. For a while, Claridon was even considered to be the main town, or "county seat," for Marion County.
A post office opened in Claridon in 1822. It helped people send and receive mail. This post office stayed open for about nine years, closing around 1831. There was some confusion because another town named Claridon in a different county (Geauga County) had a post office that opened earlier, in 1819.
The very first person in charge of the post office in Claridon, Ohio, was Bisby Kilbourn(e). Besides the post office, early Claridon also had a place for travelers to stay, called a tavern. There was also a country store where people could buy supplies.
