The Clark Mansion, also known as Holly Rood, is a very old and important house located in Clark County, Kentucky. It was once the home of a Kentucky governor!
Building the mansion started in 1813 and was finished in 1814. It was built for James Clark, who later became the 13th governor of Kentucky. He and his wife lived here, and she named the house "Holly Rood" after her father. The Clark Mansion is special because of its unique Federal architecture, a popular style from the early 1800s.
This two-story house is made of red brick and has a wide front porch with tall, fancy columns called Ionic columns. It also has a big entrance and a special window on the second floor known as a Palladian window. The mansion sits back from the road, surrounded by a large front yard.
