Clarksburg, Pennsylvania facts for kids

Kids Encyclopedia Facts

Clarksburg is a small, friendly community located in Indiana County, Pennsylvania, in the United States. It's not a city or a town with its own government, but rather an "unincorporated community." This means it's part of a larger area called Conemaugh Township.

You can find Clarksburg along Pennsylvania Route 286, which connects the towns of Indiana and Saltsburg.

What's in Clarksburg?

Even though it's a small place, Clarksburg has several important spots. You'll find a post office where you can send letters, a greenhouse full of plants, a Sunoco gas station, and a small store for everyday needs. There's also a fish hatchery, which is a special place where young fish are raised.

The community is home to the Clarksburg Presbyterian Church. The young people from the church often host fun spaghetti dinners on Saturdays during the spring and fall. These events are a great way for everyone to get together!

Farms and Fun Activities

Around Clarksburg, you'll see many family farms. Some of these are "agribusinesses," which means they grow and sell food. You might even find "pick your own" farms where you can gather fresh fruits or vegetables yourself!

Clarksburg also has its own sports teams for kids. There's a T-ball league for younger children and a baseball league for older ones. These games are played at the Kenneth Quick Memorial Park.

The Annual Town Festival

The Kenneth Quick Memorial Park is also the place for Clarksburg's annual town festival. This exciting event usually includes a 5K race, a dunking booth for some silly fun, and many food stands where you can grab a tasty treat. It's a highlight of the year for the community!

Nature and Transportation

A beautiful stream called Blacklegs Creek flows through Clarksburg. It starts in the hills north and east of town and winds its way to Saltsburg. From there, it joins the Kiskimenitas River, then the Conemaugh River, and eventually flows into the Ohio River in Pittsburgh.

Around 2005, the Shelocta branch of the Norfolk Southern Railroad was built. This train track runs along the far side of Blacklegs Creek, right through the length of the town.
