Clarksville, also known as Tong Ranch, is a small, unincorporated community in El Dorado County, California. It is located about 14 miles (23 km) west-southwest of Placerville. The community sits at an elevation of 676 feet (206 meters) above sea level.

Early Days and Growth
When it was first established, Clarksville was a busy place. It grew quickly, becoming home to over a thousand people. Many businesses also opened up to serve the miners and residents.
Changes Over Time
As the Gold Rush era ended, Clarksville's population began to shrink. By 1931, only about twenty people lived there. Today, not much of the original town remains.
Preserving History
Even though the town is much smaller now, its history is not forgotten. The Clarksville Heritage Society works hard to preserve the story of this old Gold Rush community. They help keep its memory alive for future generations.
Post Office History
Clarksville had its own post office for many years. It first opened in 1855, helping residents send and receive mail. The post office operated until 1924. It then reopened for a short period from 1927 to 1934.
