The Story of Clason Prairie
Clason Prairie got its name from a man named James Clason. He was originally from Connecticut and moved to this area in 1841. James Clason was one of the first people to settle there. He lived in Clason Prairie until he died in 1848.
The Clason Prairie Schoolhouse
For many years, children living in the Clason Prairie area attended the local school. This was a one-room schoolhouse, meaning all the students, from different ages and grades, learned together in a single classroom. The Clason Prairie School closed its doors in 1962. Even though it was no longer used as a school, the building was still standing as of 1977.
The Clason Prairie Cemetery
While the settlement itself is no longer active, the old Clason Prairie Cemetery still exists today. It is located at 43°24′49″N 88°46′52″W / 43.4135°N 88.7810°W. A cemetery is a place where people are buried. The Town of Beaver Dam helps to maintain and care for this historic cemetery.
