Clearfield is a small, quiet place in Tripp County, South Dakota. It's what we call an unincorporated community. This means it's a group of homes and people, but it doesn't have its own official local government like a city or town. Clearfield is located in the southwestern part of Tripp County, not too far from the town of Colome.
The Story of Clearfield
Clearfield has a short but interesting history. It was started in 1910 by people who moved there. These people were called settlers. They came all the way from a place called Clearfield, Iowa. It seems they liked the name so much, they used it again for their new home in South Dakota!
