Clemente Russo's Boxing Journey

After 2004, Clemente moved up to the heavier 201-pound category. He competed in the World Championships in 2005 and the European Championships in 2006.

In 2007, he reached the final of the European Championships but lost. Later that year, he had a great run at the World Championships. He beat several strong boxers, including Daniel Price and Alexander Povernov. In the final, he won a very close fight against Rakhim Chakkhiev from Russia, with a score of 7-6. This win qualified him for the next Olympics.

Olympic Success and World Series of Boxing

At the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing, Clemente Russo won a silver medal. He again faced Rakhim Chakkhiev in the final, but this time he lost. Clemente had the honor of carrying the Italian flag at the closing ceremony of the Beijing Olympics.

He also joined the Italia Thunder team in the World Series of Boxing. This is a team-based boxing league. He was named the "Winner WSB Heavyweight Individual World Champion" in 2011. His team, Italia Thunder, also won the "WSB Team World Champion" award in 2012.

Clemente continued his Olympic journey at the 2012 Summer Olympics in London. For the second time, he won a silver medal. He lost the final match to Oleksandr Usyk.

In 2019, Clemente was chosen to be the Italian flag bearer at the 2019 European Games in Minsk.

Clemente Russo officially retired from boxing on July 22, 2021. He had hoped to compete in the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo but did not receive a special invitation.
