Clemente Russo, born on July 27, 1982, is a famous Italian boxer. He was an amateur boxer who won gold medals at the World Amateur Boxing Championships in 2007 and 2013. He competed in the heavyweight category. Clemente also boxed for the Italia Thunder team in the World Series of Boxing.

Clemente Russo's Boxing Journey

Clemente Russo started his Olympic journey by qualifying for the 2004 Summer Olympics. He earned his spot by finishing second in a special qualifying tournament in Bulgaria. At these Games, Clemente competed in the light heavyweight division. He faced Andre Ward from the USA, who later won the gold medal, and was eliminated early.

Moving Up in Weight

After the 2004 Olympics, Clemente decided to move up to the heavyweight category. He competed in the World Championships in 2005 and the European Championships in 2006. In 2007, he reached the final of the European Championships but lost to Elias Pavlidis.

Winning World Championships Gold

Later in 2007, Clemente had a great performance at the World Championships. He defeated several strong boxers, including Daniel Price and Alexander Povernov. He also beat Milorad Gajović to secure his spot in the 2008 Beijing Olympics. In the finals, he won against Yushan Nijiati and then narrowly beat the Russian favorite, Rakhim Chakkhiev, to win the gold medal.

Olympic Medals and Team Boxing

At the 2008 Summer Olympics, Clemente won a silver medal. He lost the final match to Rakhim Chakkhiev. Clemente had the honor of carrying the Italian flag during the closing ceremony in Beijing. He also joined the Italia Thunder team in the World Series of Boxing. He was named the "Winner WSB Heavyweight Individual World Champion" in 2011. His team also won the "WSB Team World Champion" award in 2012.

Clemente continued his Olympic success at the 2012 Summer Olympics. He won another silver medal, this time losing the final to Oleksandr Usyk. In 2019, he was chosen to be the Italian flag bearer at the European Games in Minsk. Clemente Russo officially retired from boxing on July 22, 2021.

Life Outside the Ring

Clemente Russo has had an interesting life beyond boxing. He worked as a police officer. He often says that boxing helped him learn English and taught him a lot about self-discipline.

Family Life and Television

In 2008, Clemente married Laura Maddaloni, who was also a well-known judo athlete. They have three daughters. After he retired from boxing, Clemente started appearing on Italian television. He participated in reality shows like Big Brother VIP in 2016. He also worked as a correspondent for the show Le Iene. In 2022, he and his wife appeared together on the Italian reality show L'isola dei famosi.

Acting Career

In 2011, Clemente Russo also tried acting. He made his debut in a drama film called Tatanka.
