Cleveland is a small suburb located in the City of Wollongong, in the Australian state of New South Wales. It sits to the west of a larger town called Dapto. In 2021, a count of people living there showed that only 22 people called Cleveland home. This makes it one of the smallest suburbs in the area!
What's in a Name?
Have you ever wondered how places get their names? The official group that names places in New South Wales, called the Geographical Names Board of New South Wales, gave Cleveland its name on August 5, 2005. The name "Cleveland" actually comes from an old farmhouse that used to be in the southwest part of the suburb. It's cool how history can influence the names of places today!
Future Plans for Cleveland
Even though Cleveland is very small right now, there are plans for its future. The local government, the City of Wollongong, along with the New South Wales government, have been working on ideas for many years. They are looking at how the area might grow and develop into a more populated suburb in the future.
