Clifford Trent Robinson (born March 13, 1960) is an American former professional basketball player. He played for several teams in the National Basketball Association (NBA) during his career.

Cliff Robinson's NBA Journey

Starting with the New Jersey Nets

Cliff Robinson went to the University of Southern California. In 1979, the New Jersey Nets picked him as the 11th player in the 1979 NBA draft. Cliff was the youngest player in the NBA for two years in a row.

He had a great first year with the Nets. He scored about 13.6 points and grabbed 7.2 rebounds per game. On March 9, 1980, he scored 45 points against Detroit. This was the most points ever scored by a teenager in an NBA game.

Moving to Kansas City and Cleveland

On June 8, 1981, Robinson was traded to the Kansas City Kings. He played very well for the Kings, averaging his career best of 20.2 points in 38 games. After that, he was traded to the Cleveland Cavaliers.

One of his best games as a Cavalier was on April 15, 1983. Robinson scored 40 points and grabbed 8 rebounds. This helped his team win 132–124 against the Indiana Pacers.

Playing for Different Teams

From 1979 to 1989, Cliff Robinson consistently scored well. He usually averaged between 18 and 20 points per game. He did this even though he played for several different teams.

His best season was in 1985–86 when he played for the Washington Bullets. He scored a total of 1,460 points in 78 games. He also shot his career best of 76.2% from the free throw line. On December 12, 1985, Robinson scored 21 points. He also made a game-winning jump shot with only one second left in overtime. This shot helped the Bullets beat the Milwaukee Bucks 110–108.

In the playoffs that year, Robinson played very strongly. He averaged 21.4 points, 8.6 rebounds, 3.4 assists, and 2 steals. His team lost a close series to the Philadelphia 76ers.

Later Career and Retirement

In 1986, Cliff Robinson and Jeff Ruland were traded to the Philadelphia 76ers. They were traded for NBA legend Moses Malone. Robinson left the NBA in 1989.

However, he later signed with the Los Angeles Lakers for the 1991–92 NBA season. He finished his professional career in 1994. Overall, he averaged 17.2 points, 8.3 rebounds, and 2.0 assists per game.
