Clifford Birdinground is an American politician. He is a member of the Crow Tribe in Montana. Birdinground served as the Chairman of the Crow Tribe from 2000 to 2002.
Becoming Chairman
The leader before Clifford Birdinground was Clara Nomee. She was the Chairwoman of the Crow Tribe. In 2000, she ran for re-election.
Clifford Birdinground also ran for the position. He won the election in May 2000. Birdinground received 67% of the votes. This meant he became the new Chairman.
First Actions as Chairman
Birdinground took office in 2000. As the new Chairman, he made some important changes. He reviewed many decisions made by the previous administration.
He also changed some of the people working for the tribal government. About 130 tribal employees were affected by these changes.
End of His Term
Clifford Birdinground left his role as Chairman in September 2002. He resigned from office on September 5, 2002. This was due to some legal issues he faced.
New Leaders for the Crow Tribe
After Birdinground resigned, Vincent Goes Ahead Jr. became the interim Chairman. Goes Ahead was the Crow Vice Chairman at the time. He had been elected Vice Chairman in 2000.
A special election was held in November 2002. This election was to choose a new Chairman to finish Birdinground's term. Vincent Goes Ahead Jr. ran in this election.
However, Carl Venne won the special election. Venne received 1,589 votes. Goes Ahead received 1,481 votes. Carl Venne became the permanent Chairman on November 12, 2002. Vincent Goes Ahead Jr. remained Vice Chairman until 2004.
