Eremogone cliftonii is a special kind of flowering plant. It's often called Clifton's eremogone. This plant belongs to the Caryophyllaceae family, which is also known as the pink family.

This plant is quite unique because it is endemic to California. This means you can only find it growing naturally in California, and nowhere else in the world!

Where Does Clifton's Eremogone Grow?

Clifton's eremogone lives in specific parts of California. It's found in Butte and Plumas Counties. Scientists have found between 27 and 33 different places where this plant grows.

What Kind of Home Does It Like?

This plant prefers to live in certain types of environments. You can find it in forests and areas called chaparral. Chaparral is a type of shrubland common in California. Clifton's eremogone especially likes to grow in soil that comes from weathered granite rocks.

Even though it only grows in a few places, where it does grow, you might find a lot of these plants. It was only officially named and described by scientists in 2007.

What Does Clifton's Eremogone Look Like?

Clifton's eremogone is a perennial herb. This means it's a plant that lives for more than two years and doesn't have a woody stem like a tree.

Its Leaves and Flowers

• Leaves: The plant has small, thin leaves that look a bit like threads. They are pointed at the end and can grow up to 6 centimeters (about 2.4 inches) long.
• Flowers: The flowers grow in a cluster at the very top of the plant. Each flower has petals that are about 1 to 2 centimeters (0.4 to 0.8 inches) long.
