Clonea Castle was a castle located in County Waterford, Ireland. It stood in an area called Clonea Lower, about two and a half miles east of Dungarvan. The castle was built on a rocky spot right by the sea, near Clonea Beach. The Maguire (also known as McGuire) family owned this castle.

What Was Clonea Castle?

Clonea Castle was not a very old building like some other castles in Ireland. Records show it was built much later, in the late 1700s or early 1800s. It might have been built on the same spot where an even older fort, possibly belonging to the Fitzgerald family, once stood.

The Castle's End

Parts of Clonea Castle remained standing until the late 1900s. However, a big winter storm in 1990 caused a lot of damage. This storm largely destroyed the remaining ruins of the castle.
