Clove Brook is a small stream, about 19.3 kilometers (12 miles) long. It flows into Papakating Creek in Sussex County, New Jersey, in the United States. A tributary is a smaller stream or river that flows into a larger one. So, Clove Brook is like a helper stream for Papakating Creek.

About Clove Brook: A New Jersey Stream

Clove Brook starts its journey north of a place called Colesville. From there, it flows mostly southeast. It runs along the north side of State Route 23. The brook travels through the beautiful Clove Valley. Its path leads it towards Sussex Borough.

Where Does Clove Brook Flow?

The brook first enters the northern part of Clove Acres Lake. After passing over the lake's dam, it continues its flow. It goes right through the middle of Sussex Borough. Once it leaves the borough, Clove Brook turns south. It then joins Papakating Creek. This meeting point is just north of a town called Lewisburg.

What's in a Name?

Clove Brook has had several names over time. In the past, people called it Bastions Brook. Other names included Clove Creek, Clove River, and Deep Clove River. The name Bastions Brook was even written down in an old document. This document was a deed, which is a legal paper about land. It was signed by Peter Decker way back in the 1700s.
