The Club Cal Neva is a famous building in Downtown Reno, Nevada. It is known as a casino and used to be a hotel.
This casino is quite large, covering about 36,454 square feet. Inside, you can find 849 slot machines and 41 table games. There are also 3 poker tables and a special area for betting on races and sports.
History of Club Cal Neva
Club Cal Neva is one of the oldest casinos in Northern Nevada. It has been a part of Downtown Reno for many years. The club first opened its doors on April 2, 1962. It was started by important people in the gaming world at that time.
Over the years, Club Cal Neva has managed to stay open. It did this by changing owners and growing its sports betting business. Its sports betting section was very successful. It made a lot of money each year, even from people betting from far away. In April 2011, a company called William Hill PLC bought this part of the business. They paid $39 million for it.
Hotel Towers and Changes
Even though Club Cal Neva is not the biggest casino, it has grown over time. From 2002 to 2004, the casino rented the Virginian Tower. This tower had 125 hotel rooms. It was connected to the main casino building. However, the owners decided not to renew the lease in 2004. The hotel part then closed on October 23, 2004. It has not opened again since.
In that same year, Club Cal Neva bought another building called the Nevadan Tower. This tower was across the street. It used to be its own hotel and casino. Club Cal Neva spent a lot of money to fix it up. The Nevadan Tower then became Club Cal Neva's hotel. But later, on February 5, 2015, it was sold to another company called Siegel Suites.
Other important changes happened at Club Cal Neva too. In 1996, a parking garage was added. More space for games was also created around that time.
Club Cal Neva Today
Today, Club Cal Neva is one of the few original casinos left in Reno. It helps support some local events in Reno. One example is "La Tomatina en Reno." This event is like the famous tomato fights in Spain. The first time it happened, more than 10,000 people came! Club Cal Neva also has four restaurants where visitors can eat.
