Coal Mountain is a small, unincorporated community. It is located in Forsyth County, Georgia, in the United States. An unincorporated community means it's a place with a shared identity. However, it does not have its own local government.
This community is found where two main roads meet. These roads are Georgia State Route 369 and State Route 9. Many important places are in Coal Mountain. These include North Forsyth High School and North Forsyth Middle School. Coal Mountain Elementary School is also here. There is also Coal Mountain Park and several churches. A bank is also part of the community. The area is about 1,220 feet (372 meters) above sea level.

The community of Coal Mountain has an interesting name. You might think it's named for coal, but it's not. This part of Georgia does not have any coal deposits. Instead, the name most likely came from a local family. This family's last name was "Cole" or "Coal."
Early Services in the Community
For many years, Coal Mountain had its own post office. This post office helped the small community send and receive mail. It was open for a long time, from 1834 until 1907.
