The Emblem of Yemen is a special symbol for the country. It shows a golden Eagle of Saladin. This eagle holds a scroll in its claws. On the scroll, it says "The Republic of Yemen" in Arabic. On the eagle's chest is a shield. This shield shows a coffee plant and the famous Marib Dam. Below these, there are seven blue wavy stripes. On each side of the eagle, there is a flag of Yemen. These flags stand tall on flagstaffs.

A Look at Yemen's Past Emblems

For many years, Yemen was divided into two parts. These were North Yemen and South Yemen. This division lasted from 1945 until 1990. Each part had its own special emblem.

North Yemen's Symbols

North Yemen used emblems that looked a bit like today's emblem. Their shields often had designs similar to the older Mutawakkilite Kingdom of Yemen.

South Yemen's Symbols

South Yemen's emblem also featured the "Eagle of Saladin". This eagle is a common symbol in many Arab countries. You can see similar eagles on the emblems of Egypt and Iraq.

Emblems of Yemeni Government Branches

Different parts of the Yemeni government also use their own emblems. These emblems often include elements from the national emblem. They help people recognize different government groups.
