The coat of arms of Palestine is an important symbol. It represents the State of Palestine and the Palestinian Authority. Sometimes, it also refers to the emblem used by the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO). Think of it like a special badge that tells you about a country.

Understanding the Palestinian Coat of Arms

The government of Palestine has a specific way to describe its coat of arms. It helps us understand what each part means.

What Does the Emblem Look Like?

The main part of the Palestinian emblem is a powerful eagle. This eagle is shown with the Palestinian flag draped over it. The design is quite similar to the national emblems of countries like Egypt and Iraq. The main difference is in the colors of the flags shown on the eagle.

The eagle always looks towards the right side. Its head is held high, showing pride and strength. This pose is a common feature in many national symbols.

The History Behind the Eagle

The eagle used in the emblem is known as the Eagle of Saladin. This symbol first appeared a very long time ago. It was used during the time of the Ayyubid state. This state was founded by a famous leader named Sultan Salah al-Din al-Ayyubi in Egypt.

The Eagle of Saladin became a strong symbol for the Ayyubid state. It represented important victories and achievements for Arab nations. This historical connection makes the eagle a meaningful part of the Palestinian coat of arms today.

Different Versions of the Emblem

The emblem used by the Palestinian National Authority and the State of Palestine has specific features. It shows the pan-Arab colors of the Palestinian flag. These colors are on a shield, which the Eagle of Saladin carries.

Below the eagle, there is a scroll. On this scroll, you can read the Arabic word "فلسطين", which means "Palestine". This clearly states the identity represented by the emblem.

From Authority to State: A Name Change

For some time, there was another version of the emblem. This version had the Arabic words "السلطة الفلسطينية" on the scroll. This translates to "The Palestinian Authority." This version was used alongside the one that simply said "Palestine."

However, this "Palestinian Authority" version is no longer used. This change happened after a significant event in 2012. On November 29, 2012, the State of Palestine gained a new status at the United Nations. It became a non-member state.

Following this, in January 2013, the Palestinian National Authority was officially renamed "State of Palestine." This was done by a presidential decision. Since then, the emblem with just "Palestine" on the scroll is the official one.
