History
Coats Spring got its name from a man named James Coates. He was important to the area's early development.
In 1867, James Coates started a special place called a mineral spa at Coats Spring. A mineral spa is like a health resort where people would visit. They would use natural spring water, often for bathing, believing it had healing properties or was good for relaxation.
Later, in 1874, a post office was opened in Coats Spring. This meant that people living there could easily send and receive mail. The post office served the community for many years. However, it eventually closed down in 1903.
