Codyville got its name from the very first person who settled there. It officially became a plantation in 1872. This happened when two areas, Robbins Township and Hingham Academy Grant, joined together.
Over many years, fewer and fewer people lived in Codyville. Its population kept getting smaller after the 1930s. Because of this steady decline, the community decided to stop being a plantation in 2019.
