Coesse is a small, unincorporated town in Whitley County, Indiana. It is located within Union Township. An "unincorporated town" means it doesn't have its own local government like a city does.
A Look Back in Time
Coesse was officially planned and mapped out in 1854. This process is called "platting," which means creating a detailed map of the town's lots and streets. The town was named after a respected leader, Chief Coesse. He was the grandson of another famous Miami Chief, Michikinikwa (also known as Little Turtle).
A post office was opened in Coesse way back in 1843. It helped people send and receive mail for many years. However, the post office eventually closed its doors in 1967.
