Colom Island, also known as Illa d'en Colom in Catalan, is a tiny island. It's about 143 acres (0.58 square kilometers) in size. You can find it about 200 meters off the northeast coast of Menorca.
Long ago, the island was used as a place to keep sick people separate. Later, it became farmland. The Roca family from Mahón owned the island for many years. Mr. Antonio Roca Várez bought it in 1904. In 2018, a billionaire from the United States named Alex Meruelo bought the island. He paid 3.2 million Euros for it. There is only one house on the island, which is about 100 square meters in size. Today, Colom Island is part of the Natural Park of the Albufera of Es Grau.
Island Sale
In October 2010, it was announced that Colom Island was for sale. The asking price was around six million Euros. However, the island was finally sold in 2018 for 3.2 million Euros.
