Colongra is a small area on the Central Coast of New South Wales, Australia. It sits right next to Lake Munmorah. Even though it's called a "suburb," it's a very unique place!
What is Colongra?
Colongra is part of the Central Coast Council area, which is a type of local government area. It's not like most suburbs where lots of people live. In fact, during the 2021 Australian census, zero people were recorded living here! This is because most of the land in Colongra is used for big industrial sites and natural areas.
Power Stations in Colongra
A large part of Colongra is taken up by power stations. These are big facilities that create electricity for homes and businesses. The main one is the Colongra Power Station. It used to be known as the Munmorah Power Station. These power stations and their related buildings cover most of the land in Colongra.
Nature in Colongra
Even with the power stations, Colongra also has important natural areas. Colongra Lake is located here. This lake was once used as a special area for the Munmorah Power Station. There is also the Colongra Swamp Nature Reserve. This reserve protects important natural habitats in the northern and eastern parts of the suburb.
