History of the Hotel

The Colony Palms Hotel has a long and interesting past. It was first built in 1936. A person named Al Wertheimer built it. He called it the "Colonial House" back then.

New Owners and Names

Later, in the 1940s, the hotel got new owners. Robert and Andrea Leeds Howard took over. They changed the hotel's name to "Howard Manor." Robert Howard's father, Charles S. Howard, was also famous. He owned the legendary racehorse Seabiscuit.

For about 25 years, the hotel was a popular spot. Many young Hollywood stars visited it. They enjoyed their time in Palm Springs.

From Hotel to Health Spa

In the 1970s, the hotel changed again. It became a health spa. It was called The Palms. Sheila Cluff ran this spa. She also owned another health spa. It was called The Oaks in Ojai, California. Today, the Colony Palms Hotel is once again a beautiful hotel.
