History of the Colorado State Fair
The Colorado State Fair has a long and interesting past. It started even before Colorado became a state in 1876. Back in 1869, about 2,000 people gathered in what is now Pueblo. They came to see a horse show. This small beginning grew into the huge Colorado State Fair we know today.
Fair Cancellations and Changes
The fair has been canceled a few times over the years. It did not happen in 1917 and 1918. It was also canceled from 1942 to 1945. These cancellations were due to big events like world wars. In 2020, the fair was different because of the COVID-19 pandemic. People could still get fair food by driving through. There were also only a few special exhibits.
Looking at the Fair's Finances
In November 2019, people looked closely at how the Colorado State Fair was run. This was done by the Colorado General Assembly. They found that the fair had lost money for 21 years in a row. Between 2014 and 2018, the fair lost about $4 million each year. This information was shared in local news.
