Columpa Bobb's Career
Writing and Acting for the Stage
Columpa Bobb grew up in Vancouver. She has written more than twelve plays. These plays have been shown all over Canada and in other countries. One play, called Jumping Mouse, was written with Marion deVries. It was made especially for young audiences. This play was nominated for two important awards: a Dora Mavor Moore Award and a James Buller Award.
Columpa also won a Jessie Richardson Theatre Award in 1997. This award was for her amazing acting in a play called Only Drunks and Children Tell the Truth.
Television Roles
Many people know Columpa Bobb from her role as Mary Cook. She played this character on the CBC Television show North of 60. She also appeared in another TV series called The Rez. You might have seen her in the movie Johnny Greyeyes too.
Teaching and Mentoring Young Artists
Columpa Bobb has a passion for teaching. She used to be a cultural instructor. She also taught at the Centre for Indigenous Theatre in Toronto.
Today, she is the Program Director and an instructor. She teaches classes at the Aboriginal Arts Training & Mentorship Program. This program is at the Manitoba Theatre for Young People in Winnipeg. About 325 students attend this program each year. The best part is that it is completely free for all students! Columpa also teaches for the Circus and Magic Partnership (CAMP) program. This is part of the Winnipeg International Children's Festival.
Recent Work
In 2019, Columpa Bobb acted in a play called The Unnatural and Accidental Women. She played the character Mavis. This play was put on by the National Arts Centre.
Columpa also wrote a new poetry book. It is called Hope Matters. She wrote it with her mother, Lee Maracle, and her sister, Tania Carter. The book was published in 2019.

Columpa Bobb comes from a family of talented artists. Her mother is Lee Maracle, a well-known poet and writer. Her great-grandfather was the famous actor Chief Dan George.
