The Hérault department in France.

Welcome to Hérault, a beautiful area in the south of France! This page lists all the different towns and villages, called communes, that make up the Hérault département. Think of a commune like a local town or city area with its own local government. Hérault is one of France's 96 departments, which are like big regions or counties. It's known for its sunny beaches, vineyards, and historic cities like Montpellier.

What are Communes?

In France, a commune is the smallest area of local government. It's like a city, town, or village, and each one has its own mayor and local council. There are many thousands of communes across France, and Hérault alone has 343 of them!

Working Together: Agglomeration Communities

Many of these communes work together in groups called communautés d'agglomération (say: koh-moo-noh-TAY dah-glo-ray-SYOHN). These groups help manage things like public transport, waste collection, and economic development for several towns at once. It's like different neighborhoods or towns joining forces to make things better for everyone!

Here are the main groups in Hérault:

  • Montpellier Agglomération (CAM): This group was created in 2002 and includes many towns around the big city of Montpellier.
  • Béziers Méditerranée (CAB): Also started in 2002, this group focuses on the area around the city of Béziers.
  • Bassin de Thau (CAS): Formed in 2003, this community is around the Thau Lagoon, including towns like Sète.
  • Hérault Méditerranée (CAA): Created in 2003, this group includes towns near Agde and the Mediterranean coast.

List of Communes in Hérault

Below is a list of all 343 communes in the Hérault department. You'll see three columns:

  • INSEE: This is a special code given to each commune by the French government.
  • Postal: This is the postal code, just like a zip code, for sending mail.
  • Commune: This is the name of the town or village.

Some communes also have a small note like (CAM) next to their name. This tells you which "Agglomeration Community" they belong to.
