Festival History

How the Festivals Started

The Comstock Windmill Festival was the first to begin. It started in June 2000 and featured country music star Brad Paisley. This event was so popular that it became an annual tradition. By 2001, the Windmill Festival had grown into a four-day event.

In 2002, a new festival called Comstock Rock was added. This festival brought many famous classic rock bands to the stage. It quickly became a favorite for rock music lovers from across the nation.

The third festival, Godstock, began in August 2003. It featured some of the biggest names in Christian music, offering a different style of music for attendees.

Keeping Everyone Safe

Over the years, the festivals have grown a lot. To make sure everyone has a safe and fun experience, new rules and safety measures have been put in place. For example, in 2006, the festival organizers worked with the State of Nebraska to update rules for drinks sold at the event.

Many security staff and local law enforcement officers are on site during the festivals. There are also EMTs available to help anyone who needs medical attention. These measures help keep the large crowds safe and organized.

Changes and New Beginnings

After the 2006 festivals, there were some financial challenges. People wondered if the Comstock Windmill Festival would continue. But then, Viaero Wireless, a cellular service company, stepped in to help. They became a major sponsor in early 2007, which helped the festivals continue. That year, popular country artists like Big and Rich and Kenny Rogers performed.

In 2008, the festivals got new owners. The events are now known as the Comstock Music Series. This series continues to host both country and rock concerts, keeping the music tradition alive in Comstock.
