Connect 4x4 (said as Connect Four by Four) is an exciting strategy game that makes you think in three dimensions. It was first released in 2009 by Milton Bradley. The main goal of the game is just like its famous cousin, Connect Four. Players take turns placing game pieces into a special grid. The first player to get four of their colored pieces in a row wins!

Unlike the original Connect Four, this game has a double grid. It also uses two different kinds of game pieces. Plus, up to four people can play at the same time. This makes Connect 4x4 a unique and challenging game for everyone.

How to Play Connect 4x4

Before you start playing, each player picks a set of colorful checkers. These are like small disks. You will keep your checkers ready for your turn.

Game Pieces and Board Setup

The game has two types of pieces:

  • Regular checkers: These are simple disks with a hole in the middle.
  • Blockers: These are two disks joined together by a small bar.

The game board is special. It is seven spaces wide and six spaces high. It also has two layers, making it two spaces deep. The board stands upright, so you drop pieces through openings at the top.

Taking Your Turn

When it's your turn, you choose which type of checker to use. You then drop it into one of the openings at the top of the board. The game piece will then slide straight down until it lands in the first empty space in that column.

Winning Strategies in Connect 4x4

Every time you make a move, you decide where to place your checker. Your goal is to line up your own checkers. At the same time, you must try to stop your opponents from getting their four in a row first.

Using Blockers Wisely

Each player has two special "blocker" pieces. These blockers are different from regular checkers. They take up space on both sides of the double grid at once. Because a blocker has a stiff bar connecting its two disks, it will stop at the highest open slot between the two sides. This means a single blocker can block multiple slots in a column. It can make those slots unusable for all players, even if they look empty. Using blockers at the right time can be a very powerful strategy.

How to Win the Game

You win Connect 4x4 by being the first player to line up four of your checkers. You can make a line in any direction:

  • Horizontally (across)
  • Vertically (up and down)
  • Diagonally (slanted)

A cool feature of Connect 4x4 is that your checkers can weave back and forth between the two grids. This means there are even more ways to get four in a row. It adds an extra layer of challenge and fun to the game!
