Constance Gertrude Copeman was a talented British artist. She lived from 1864 to 1953. She was known for her paintings, prints, and engravings. Many of her artworks featured animals.

Biography

Constance was born in Liverpool, England. Her father was a lawyer. She went to the Liverpool School of Art. She studied there from 1891 to 1900. Her teacher was a famous artist named John Finnie.

Later, she studied in St Ives, a beautiful town in Cornwall. She learned from another artist, Julius Olsson. After her studies, she moved back to Liverpool.

Constance showed her art often. She exhibited at the Liverpool Autumn exhibitions every year. This was from 1885 until 1938. She also showed her work six times at the famous Royal Academy in London. Her first show there was in 1894.

Her art was displayed in other important places too. These included the Royal Cambrian Academy. She also showed her work at the Royal Glasgow Institute of the Fine Arts. Another place was the Royal Society of Painter-Etchers and Engravers. This society chose her as an associate member in 1897. She was also a member of the Liverpool Academy of Arts.

The Walker Art Gallery in Liverpool has some of her artworks. Liverpool City Libraries also keeps some of her sketching albums. Her art is still sold at auctions around the world. The prices for her work have ranged from about $483 to $1,896 USD. This depends on the size and type of the artwork. The highest price paid for her art was $1,896 USD. This was for a painting called "Young Woman Holding a Child Beside Hollyhocks." It was sold in 2011.
