Amy Elizabeth Walter (born October 19, 1969) is an American expert who studies and explains politics. She is the main editor and publisher of The Cook Political Report with Amy Walter. This is a special report that helps people understand elections.
Since 2015, Amy Walter has also worked as a political expert for the PBS News Hour. She is very good at predicting and explaining what might happen in U.S. elections.

Early Life and Education
Amy Walter grew up in Barrington, Illinois. She finished Barrington High School in 1987.
She then went to Colby College and graduated in 1991. She earned her degree with the highest honors, which is called summa cum laude. Today, she is still involved with Colby College and helps guide it as a member of its board of trustees.
Her Career in Journalism
Amy Walter started working at The Cook Political Report in 1997. This report gives information and predictions about elections. For ten years, she was a senior editor there. She focused on news about the United States House of Representatives.
From 2007 to 2010, she was the Editor-in-Chief at National Journal's Hotline. After that, she became the political director for ABC News in 2010. She worked at ABC News until 2013.
In 2013, Amy Walter went back to The Cook Political Report. She became its national editor. On July 30, 2021, she took over from Charlie Cook. She became the main editor and publisher, and the report was renamed The Cook Political Report with Amy Walter.
Amy Walter's writings have appeared in major newspapers. These include The Washington Post, The Wall Street Journal, and The New York Times. She has also been on many TV shows. Some of these are PBS News Hour, Face the Nation, and Meet the Press. She often shares her political insights on these programs.
Awards and Special Recognition
Amy Walter has received several awards for her smart analysis. In 2000, she won The Washington Post's Crystal Ball Award. This was because she correctly predicted that George W. Bush would win the presidential election that year.
She was also part of the CNN team that won an Emmy Award. This award was for their excellent coverage of the 2006 elections. In 2009, Washingtonian magazine named her one of the top 50 journalists in Washington, D.C. In 2021, the same magazine listed her as one of Washington’s Most Powerful Women.
Amy Walter was also a special fellow at the Institute of Politics at the University of Chicago. In 2017, her old college, Colby College, gave her an honorary Doctor of Letters degree.
Personal Life
Amy Walter married her partner, author Kathryn Hamm, in 2013. They adopted a son in 2006.
