A Bit of History
The town was not always called Cookamidgera. It was first known as Bindegandri. On 29 August 1895, its name was officially changed to Cookamidgera. This name change happened just a few years after the railway arrived.
The Railway Connection
The Broken Hill railway line opened in 1893. Cookamidgera became a stop on this important line. For many years, trains brought people and goods to the town. Passenger services stopped in the 1970s. Today, people who want to travel by train go to the nearby Parkes railway station.
