Why Is It Called Cooley Lake?
The Cooley Family's Home
Cooley Lake was named after a family who lived right on its shore. Solon Cooley (1830-1881) and his wife, Levantia Cooley (1836-1910), owned a large farm. Their farm was 158 acres big and was located in White Lake Township.
Solon and Levantia lived there with their two children. Because their farm was next to the lake, the lake eventually became known as Cooley Lake. Solon Cooley was originally from a place called Galen, in New York.
