Coqueza (pronounced Koh-KEH-zah) is a small village in Bolivia, a country in South America. It is also sometimes spelled Coquesa. This village is part of a larger area called the Tahua Municipality. Think of a canton like a small district or section within a bigger town or region.

In 2001, a count of the people living there showed that only 102 inhabitants called Coqueza home. This makes it a very quiet and peaceful place! The village is special because it sits right next to the famous Salar de Uyuni. This is the world's largest salt flat, a huge area covered in salt. Coqueza is also located south of the impressive Tunupa volcano.

Where is Coqueza?

Coqueza is found in the Potosí Department of Bolivia. A department is like a state or a large region within a country. Within the Potosí Department, Coqueza is part of the Daniel Campos Province. Provinces are smaller areas inside departments. Finally, Coqueza is a canton within the Tahua Municipality. A municipality is a local government area, like a town or city with its surrounding lands.

Living near the Salt Flat

The village of Coqueza is located right on the edge of the Salar de Uyuni. This giant salt flat is one of the most amazing natural wonders in the world. It covers over 10,000 square kilometers (about 4,000 square miles)! The Salar de Uyuni looks like a huge white desert. It's so flat that you can see the curve of the Earth.

People who live in Coqueza might see incredible sunsets over the salt flat. The area is also known for its unique wildlife, including flamingos that visit the lagoons.

The Tunupa Volcano

Just south of Coqueza stands the Tunupa volcano. This volcano is a significant landmark in the region. Although it's not active, its large size and distinct shape make it easy to spot from far away. The volcano adds to the dramatic scenery around Coqueza, making the area very beautiful and interesting to explore.
