Corbon was once a small town, or commune, located in the Calvados area of Normandy, a region in northwestern France. Think of a commune like a small local government area. In January 2015, Corbon joined with another commune called Notre-Dame-d'Estrées. Together, they formed a new, larger commune known as Notre-Dame-d'Estrées-Corbon.

What Was Corbon Like?

Corbon was a very small place. It was part of the Calvados department. A department in France is similar to a county or a state. It was also located in the Normandy region. Regions are larger areas that group several departments together.

Location and Size

Corbon was situated in the northwestern part of France. It was a rural area. The commune covered about 4.09 square kilometers. This is roughly the size of 1,000 acres. Its elevation, or how high it was above sea level, varied. It ranged from 5 meters (about 16 feet) to 15 meters (about 49 feet).

Life in Corbon

Being a small commune, Corbon had a close-knit community. The number of people living there was quite small. For example, in 2019, only 65 people lived in Corbon. Over the years, the population changed a bit. In the 1960s, there were around 90 people. By the 1990s, it had dropped to about 60. This shows it remained a very quiet place.

Why Did Corbon Merge?

Small communes in France sometimes merge with their neighbors. This happens for several reasons. Merging can help them share resources better. It can also make local government more efficient. By joining together, they can provide services more easily. These services might include schools, roads, or public safety. The goal is often to improve life for everyone.

The New Commune: Notre-Dame-d'Estrées-Corbon

When Corbon merged with Notre-Dame-d'Estrées, they created a new, single commune. This new commune is called Notre-Dame-d'Estrées-Corbon. This kind of change is common in France. It helps small towns adapt and thrive. It allows them to work together for a stronger future.
