The Cordillera de Talinay is a mountain range located in the Coquimbo Region of Chile. It is made up of hills and lower mountains that stretch over 40 kilometers (about 25 miles) from the coast, going north to south. These hills meet the Limarí River as it flows through Chile's Central Valley (also called the Intermediate Depression).

What Can You Find in the Cordillera de Talinay?

The city of Ovalle is located on its slopes. Ovalle is the main city of the Limarí Province. You can also find important copper mines here, like the Tamaya mine.

A very special place on these slopes is the Fray Jorge Forest National Park. This park is so unique that UNESCO has named it a World Biosphere Reserve. This means it's a special area recognized for its amazing nature and efforts to protect it.

Most of the mountains in the Cordillera de Talinay are not super tall, usually less than 600 meters (about 1,970 feet) high. But there are some exceptions, like Cerro Guanaqueros (Guanaqueros Hill), which is much taller.
