About the Story of Corduroy
Corduroy's Adventure in the Store
The story is about a cute teddy bear named Corduroy. He sits on a shelf in a big department store. One day, a girl named Lisa sees him and really wants to buy him. But her mom says no, because Corduroy is missing a button on his overalls.
After the store closes, Corduroy decides to find his missing button. He goes on an adventure! He rides an escalator up to the furniture floor. There, he sees many new things like beds and chairs. He climbs onto a bed and finds a round button. Thinking it's his, he pulls it hard. This makes him fall off the bed and knock over a lamp.
A store security guard hears the noise. He finds Corduroy and takes him back to the toy department. Corduroy is put back on his shelf with the other toys.
Corduroy Finds a Friend
The next day, Lisa comes back to the store. She has saved her money from her piggy bank. She buys Corduroy! At home, Lisa sews a new button onto Corduroy's overalls. The book ends with Corduroy and Lisa hugging. They both realize they have found a new friend.
