Cormac Izuchukwu's Rugby Journey

Cormac was born in London, England. His mother is Irish, and his father is Nigerian. When he was seven, he moved to County Offaly, Ireland. He grew up there with his brother and sister.

Early Rugby Days

Cormac started playing rugby at Tullamore RFC in Offaly. Later, he attended Roscrea College. He played for their top team in the Leinster Schools Cup quarter-finals.

He had a chance to try out for Connacht at the under-19 level. However, he twisted his ankle and could not attend. At 18, he signed up to play for Kelso RFC in Scotland. This included training with Newcastle Falcons.

Joining Ulster Rugby

Cormac joined the Ulster academy before the 2020–21 season. He made his first appearance for Ulster on February 26, 2021. He came on in the 63rd minute of a 21–7 win against Ospreys.

He played in the next games against Glasgow Warriors and Leinster. During the Leinster match, he received a yellow card. In April 2021, he signed a two-year contract with Ulster.

He was chosen for the Emerging Ireland squad in September 2022. They played in the Toyota Challenge in South Africa. Cormac was a squad player for Ulster under coach Dan McFarland. He became a regular starter in the back row in the second half of the 2023–24 season. This was under the new head coach, Richie Murphy.

International Rugby Career

A video of Cormac's best plays caught the eye of Anthony Eddy at the IRFU. This led to him being signed for the Ireland Sevens.

Representing Ireland Sevens

He represented Ireland in two sevens competitions in 2019. Sevens rugby is a faster version of the game. It has seven players per team instead of 15.

Playing for Ireland's Main Team

Cormac's great form led to him being called up to the Ireland squad. This was for their two-match 2024 summer tour of South Africa.

He made his debut in a 52–17 win against Fiji. This was during the 2024 Autumn Nations Series. He even scored a try, but it was unfortunately disallowed due to a forward pass.
