History of Cornland

Cornland was officially created in 1871. This happened when a railroad line, called the Gilman, Clinton & Springfield Railroad, was built through the area. A post office opened in Cornland the very next year, in 1872.

Cornland is located on mostly flat land. This area is part of the Sangamon River drainage system. It is also close to the lower parts of Lake Fork Creek.
