The Cornwall Town Hall is a special old building in Cornwall, Vermont. You can find it at 2629 Vermont Route 30. It was built a long time ago, in 1880. Later, in 1905, it was made bigger. This was so it could also be a meeting place for a group called the Grange. The Town Hall is one of the few buildings in this country area that looks like it's from Italy, with a style called Italianate architecture. It has always been a place where people in the community can meet. In 1986, it was added to the National Register of Historic Places. This means it's an important historical building.

What is the Cornwall Town Hall?
The Cornwall Town Hall is located in the small village center. It stands on the east side of Vermont Route 30. This is just north of where Vermont Route 74 meets it. The building is made of wood and has two and a half stories. It has a pointed roof and its outside walls are covered with clapboards. The bottom part of the building is made of stone and concrete.
Unique Italianate Style
The building has special decorations that make it look like Italianate architecture. The edges of the roof have decorative brackets. These are like small supports that stick out. The windows on the top floor of the front part have pointed tops. The main entrance has windows on the sides and flat columns next to the door. It also has a pointed top above the door.
Inside the Town Hall
Inside, the first floor has offices for the town. This is where town leaders and workers do their jobs. The second floor has a large room that is used as an auditorium. This space is perfect for meetings or events. At the back of the building, there is a small, one-story addition. It has a roof that slopes down on one side.
History of the Cornwall Town Hall
The Town Hall was built in 1880. This was a good time for Cornwall. The town was doing well because many people were farming merino sheep. These sheep were important for their wool.
Changes Over Time
In 1905, the building was changed and made bigger. A new part was added to the back. This new section had kitchen facilities. These changes were made to help the town's Grange chapter. The Grange is a community group that started in 1903. This group helped pay for other improvements. They helped get a new heating system for the building. Later, they also helped bring electricity to the Town Hall.
Who Designed It?
The outside look of the Town Hall is similar to designs by an architect named Clinton G. Smith. He was from Middlebury, Vermont. However, no one knows for sure who designed the Cornwall Town Hall. It remains an important part of Cornwall's history and community life.
