History of Lindley
How a Family Business Started
In 1910, a young couple from England, José Robinson Lindley and Martha Stoppanie de Lindley, moved to Peru. They started a company in Lima. Their first building was about 200 square meters. It was called Santa Rosa of José R. Lindley and Sons S.A.
In 1918, they bought their first machine to bottle drinks. This machine helped them make many more drinks much faster! By 1928, their factory had grown to 1,400 square meters. They also bought all new equipment to keep up with demand.
The Birth of a National Drink
In 1935, the company launched a new drink called Inca Kola. They did this to celebrate Lima turning 400 years old. Inca Kola quickly became very popular.
By 1945, the Lindley Corporation was selling Inca Kola all over Peru. By 1972, Inca Kola was available in every part of the country. In 1983, they started using plastic bottles for their drinks. These came in 1 liter, 1.5 liter, and 2 liter sizes. In 1996, the company became fully modern. They bought a German bottling system called Krones that used computers to do everything.
For a while, the Lindley Corporation had several smaller companies that helped it. These companies did things like transport drinks or manage buildings. But in 1996, all these smaller companies joined together to become one big company. In 1997, this big company changed its name to Corporación José R. Lindley S.A. Later, in 2001, they bought two more bottling companies, EPSA and Embotelladora La Selva S.A.
Working Together with Coca-Cola
In 1999, the Lindley Corporation made a special deal with The Coca-Cola Company. In 2000, Lindley started working with Coca-Cola. But there were two companies selling Coca-Cola products in Peru: Lindley and another company called Embotelladora Latinoamericana SA (ELSA). This made things difficult because they were both trying to sell to the same customers.
So, in 2004, the Lindley Corporation bought ELSA. This helped them use their resources better and become stronger in the market. In 2005, ELSA officially became part of the Lindley Corporation. After this, Corporación José R. Lindley became the only company allowed to make, sell, and deliver Coca-Cola drinks in Peru.
Arca Continental Lindley Today
From 2006 to 2009, the Lindley Corporation helped the soft drink industry grow stronger. They invested a lot in advertising, new packaging, and putting cooling machines in stores. They also launched many successful new products. By 2009, the Lindley Corporation had a huge share of the soft drink market in Peru.
In 2010, the Lindley Corporation celebrated 100 years of being in the drink business!
