Cory Blackwell (born March 27, 1963) is an American former professional basketball player. He was chosen by the Seattle SuperSonics in the 1984 NBA draft. He was the 28th player picked overall.
Cory is a 6-foot-6-inch forward who played college basketball at the University of Wisconsin–Madison. He played one season in the NBA for the Sonics during the 1984–85 season. He played in 60 games and scored a total of 202 points. After his NBA career, he played basketball in other countries. He has also worked as a leader in Christian churches.
Early Life and Basketball Career
Cory Blackwell was born in Chicago, Illinois. He grew up in a Muslim family. He went to Crane Technical High School in Chicago. After high school, he was accepted into the University of Wisconsin.
At the university, he played for the school's basketball team. His skills led him to be drafted into the NBA. This was a big step for him as a young athlete.
Life After the NBA
After playing in the NBA, Cory Blackwell lived in Chicago. He later became involved with a Christian church. He moved to Los Angeles, California, for his church work.
In 2010, Cory joined the International Christian Churches (ICC). He later took on a leadership role there. He currently lives in Los Angeles. He and his wife, Jeraldine, plan to move to Chicago. They will lead the Chicago ICC and oversee other church groups.
Cory Blackwell is also the father of NFL defensive tackle Cameron Heyward.
