Cory Hightower (born July 30, 1979) is an American professional basketball player. He was chosen by the San Antonio Spurs in the second round of the 2000 NBA draft.
Early Basketball Journey
Cory Hightower played basketball for two years at Indian Hills Community College. He was a guard and forward for their team. During his first year, he was named the Most Valuable Player (MVP) of the NJCAA Tournament. In his second year, he was recognized as a First Team NJCAA All-American. After college, Cory decided to enter the NBA draft early.
NBA Draft Experience
On the day of the 2000 NBA draft, the San Antonio Spurs traded Cory Hightower's draft rights to the Los Angeles Lakers. He played well for the Lakers in the NBA Summer League and during pre-season games. He averaged 17 points per game. However, he was later released from the team. This happened so the Lakers could add another point guard to their roster.
Even though Cory Hightower had a professional basketball career that lasted 12 years, he never played in an official NBA game. He was one of eight players from the 2000 NBA Draft who did not play in the league.
Professional Career Highlights
Cory Hightower started his professional career in the 2000–01 season. He played for the Gary Steelheads in the CBA. After that, he joined the famous Harlem Globetrotters, a team known for their amazing basketball tricks and entertainment.
In 2001, he tried out for the Charlotte Hornets but was released before the season started. He then returned to the CBA in 2002, playing again for the Gary Steelheads and later for the Rockford Lightning. Over the next few years, Cory continued to play for several CBA teams, including the Great Lakes Storm, Yakima Sun Kings, and Michigan Mayhem.
In 2004, Cory Hightower began playing basketball overseas. He joined teams like Marinos de Anzoátegui in Venezuela. He also played for the Albany Patroons in the United States Basketball League. His career showed him playing for many different teams and leagues around the world.
