Corydon Township is a small community located in McKean County, Pennsylvania, in the United States. In 2020, about 285 people lived here.

History of Corydon Township

Corydon Township was first settled by people in 1810. It officially became a township in 1829.

For a while, there were actually two places called Corydon Township! In 1846, a part of the original Corydon was given to a neighboring county, Warren County. This new area also kept the name Corydon.

But the Corydon Township in Warren County was later flooded. This happened when the Allegheny Reservoir was created in 1964. So now, there is only one Corydon Township left, the one in McKean County.

Famous People from Corydon

Corydon Township has been the birthplace of some interesting people.

  • Charles F. Freeman was born here. He later became a politician and businessman in Wisconsin.
  • Ray Caldwell, a famous baseball player from the early 1900s, was also born in Corydon. He was known as a great pitcher.

Geography and Nature

Corydon Township covers an area of about 73.7 square miles (190.9 square kilometers). Most of this area is land.

A small part, about 0.4 square miles (1.0 square kilometer), is water. This water mostly comes from the Allegheny Reservoir. The reservoir is a large lake created by a dam.
