The Council of Tarragona refers to two important meetings, or councils, of the Roman Catholic Church. These meetings took place in the city of Tarragona, which is located in Catalonia, Spain. Church councils are gatherings where important religious leaders discuss and decide on matters of faith and church rules.

The First Council of Tarragona

The first Council of Tarragona was held on 6 November 516. It was led by Archbishop John of Tarragona.

Who Attended the Council?

This meeting brought together all the bishops from Archbishop John's church province. This made it the very first provincial council held in Tarragona. A total of ten bishops attended this important gathering.

Another Council in Girona

The very next year, in 517, Archbishop John organized another provincial council. This second meeting took place in the city of Girona.
