Countess Maria Felicitas von Schönburg-Glauchau (born August 15, 1958 – died January 27, 2019) was a German socialite. She was also known as Maya von Schönburg. A socialite is someone who is well-known in fashionable society and attends many social events.

Early Life and Family

Maya von Schönburg-Glauchau was born on August 15, 1958. Her father was Joachim, Count of Schönburg-Glauchau. Her mother was Countess Beatrix Széchenyi de Sárvár-Felsővidék. The Schönburg family is a very old noble family in Germany.

Maya had three siblings: Carl-Alban, Alexander, and Gloria. She also had a half-sister named Anabel.

In the 1960s, Maya's family moved to Togo. This was because her father worked as a journalist. He reported from other countries. Later, they moved to Somalia. Maya went to an Italian missionary school in Mogadishu there.

The family returned to Germany in 1970. They lived in Meckenheim. After Germany became one country again in 1990, her father got back their family lands. These lands had been taken after World War II.

Maya was also the aunt of Princess Maria Theresia, Princess Elisabeth, and Albert, 12th Prince of Thurn and Taxis.

Personal Life

In 1985, Maya married Friedrich Christian Flick. He was a very wealthy businessman. He also started the Friedrich Christian Flick Collection of art. They had three children together: Friedrich-Alexander, Maria-Pilar, and Ernst-Moritz. They later divorced in 1993.

After her divorce, Maya had another daughter named Maria Carlotta Beatrice. Her partner at the time was Stefan Hipp. Maya lived in a house in England for some time. This house used to belong to the famous actress Marilyn Monroe. In 2011, she moved to Italy.

In 2012, Maya was diagnosed with lung cancer. This is a serious illness. She moved back to Germany to get medical treatment.

Maya was a Traditionalist Catholic. This means she followed a traditional form of the Catholic faith. She went on special religious journeys called pilgrimages. She visited places like Santiago de Compostela Cathedral and Sanctuary of Our Lady of Lourdes. She believed these trips helped her recovery from cancer.

She once said in an interview that her family celebrated Christkind at Christmas. This is a traditional German Christmas figure. It is different from Santa Claus.

Maya was in a relationship with Henry Wyndham. He used to be in charge of the famous auction house Sotheby's. She was often seen at fashion, art, and social events. These events took place in Germany and England.

Death

Sadly, Maya von Schönburg-Glauchau's lung cancer returned. She passed away on January 27, 2019. She was staying at her mother's home in Munich at the time.

Her funeral service was held at the Cathedral of Our Lady on February 2, 2019. She was buried in the Northern Cemetery in Munich.
