The Couture River (or rivière des Couture in French) is a small river in Quebec, Canada. It flows into the rivière à la Scie, which then joins the mighty St. Lawrence River. This river is entirely located within the city of Lévis, which is part of the Chaudière-Appalaches region.
About the Couture River
The Couture River is about 7 kilometers (4.3 miles) long. It starts in an area called La Grande plée Bleue in Lévis. From there, it flows downhill and eventually meets the rivière à la Scie. The river's journey takes it through different parts of the city.
Where the River Starts and Ends
The Couture River begins at an elevation of about 89 meters (292 feet) above sea level. This starting point is like the river's "birthplace." As it flows, it loses elevation, ending at about 49 meters (161 feet) when it reaches the rivière à la Scie. This difference in height helps the water flow.
Naming the Couture River
The name "Rivière des Couture" became official on March 28, 1974. This decision was made by the Commission de toponymie du Québec, which is a group in Quebec responsible for naming places. It helps make sure that names are clear and official.
